Final Touches!!

Hello everyone!

Week 7 has already passed and in my group we had our final touches to our final constructive idea for our NGO ‘Robotica Educativa’. As a solution our group came up with the idea of creating an online platform, more specifically, creating an APP for Robotica Educativa. Our group theme was crowdfunding, kickstarter for instance is a way of crowdfunding, however our idea of creating an app is to create a Game Application in form of robots games which requires donations from people all around the globe in order to be able to play the game. This donation helps robotica to use the money and create robot.

Here is the script about our constructive idea, making an APP:

The main idea of our group is to collaborate with,Tecnologico De Monterrey or Guadalajara University in Mexico, in order to develop a robot game for Robotica Educativa on the App Store. We did an analysis of games which we considered were the most similar ones to what we want to make. Iron Man, which is a very successful game developed by Gameloft company. Because of the real visual effect and excellent game experience, it attracts millions subscribers each year. More than that, the users of this game are required to donate money for their robots, if they want to play further or update the kits. In this way, Gameloft company, makes a huge profit. After all this research we discovered that there is a great potential to get financial benefits out of a game made by Robotica Educativa.

Our design idea draw from this previous experience. We would like to focus on addressing crowd-funding through this game platform. This game is designed in five parts, including, Community Introduction, Robots Design, Personal Account, Game Center, and Exhibition.

The first part, community introduction, is used for giving a brief background introduction of Robotic Educativa. Through widely publicity, the users will have a better understanding about what the arduous challenge Robotica Educativa facing.

When it comes to the Robots Design, It provides several robot roles for the players of all over the world, and it is also an innovation platform we provide for the Mexican kids, they could design any kinds of robot they want in the game as well.

Game Center: The donation is the most important part in the Game Center. The players should pay money for the robot they like, even the small mechanical parts of the robot. They could choose the amount of money they want to donate freely. Once the donation is done the user has the absolute freedom to play games and update their kits. Also the users will see how his/her robots improve while playing. In the meanwhile, each robot has a value evaluation, when enough money has been collected, this amount of money is going to be used for the materials to make the real robot for kids.

Personal Account: Each player needs to create a personal account in order to play. Here the user will be able to see his/her donations. In addition, there will be also space for all the records they would have in the game system.

Exhibition Page: This page is used for exhibiting all of the real robot they make.

It also provides a platform for Robotica Educativa to interact with all of those who are willing to know and help them. They will be able to upload videos and comment on their activities in Mexico, show everyone the facilities they have to produce all their products…

Robotica Educativa will probably need technical support in order to create the real app. therefore we are going to contact Tecnologico De Monterrey or Guadalajara University and ask for their help. A good game will have more fame though, more advantages for Robotica Educativa.

Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing – The first solution which came into our mind!!

This blog is going to focus on crowdfunding and crowdsourcing, which we had mentioned it in our previous blogs as well. This is not our final idea/solution yet, but can actually be another solution to be provided to our NGO. In terms of crowdfunding and crowdsourcing, there are some essential points which are really necessary for our NGO, such as:

  • Join social media to help with funding
  • Reach media
  • Create ways to promote the NGO by creating a video to bring awareness and get more volunteers

In this case, our NGO really needs more volunteers by promoting their NGO through different ways.

“”Crowdfunding””

When talking about crowdfunding you are basically allowing the crowd to come in and support you. The first thing you need is a platform, for instance ‘Kickstarter’, then you need as much people you can to donate money to your organization. According to the research I have done, in my opinion crowdfunding can be very helpful as it can:

  • Allow your organization to grow even further
  • Reduce risks when trying to build a new company by the money you get

However, there are also some limitations in crowdfunding, one would be that it consumes a lot of time when trying to gain as much funds as possible and also you always have to prove your company is real and it is not some fraud, sometimes it is very hard to build people’s trust for something.

“”Crowdsourcing””

Just like crowdfunding, in crowdsourcing you are also inviting the crowd to come and take part in whatever you are doing. According to my research, crowdsourcing is all about allowing people to guide you or give you ideas over a particular subject. This particular subject could be very specific like designing a logo, where a group of people together will come up with a design. Crowdsourcing is also very helpful as:

  • Something better can be created as there will be more ideas by each person put together as one
  • It saves time

However, the limitations for crowdsourcing would be that it can only be done if the company has a lot of volunteers. Along with that the volunteers might be unreliable so you have to find the right people for your organization which can be hard and time consuming.

In case of our NGO, both crowdsourcing and crowdfunding are very beneficial to allow the NGO to grow. The NGO needs a big amount of funds from people to establish. First what it needs is a firm platform and permanent donators which is also where the part ‘promotion’ comes in. However, our NGO has very few people working for it so it requires many volunteers and this can only be done by promoting themselves, at the moment our NGO has in no way done any effort in promoting so they really need to work on this. When they will have a lot of volunteers such as students they will be able to carry out to say ‘crowdsourcing’ in a proper way.

Keep Calm and Crowd fund it! Goodluck everyone!

Week 5 – Networks, Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing

This week we worked on networkors, online social structures, crowdfunding and crowdsourcing.

A social network is a website that brings people together to talk, share ideas and to make new friends. Through the group research we found out that there are 6 big social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Google+, linked in, blog and YouTube, and that they could be use for the benefit of our NGO. This social networks help millions of companies to get closer to people, it is the easies possible way of advertising and for almost free, and billions of people have access to it all around the world. Robotica Educativa has only a Facebook page from all the big social networks, Facebook is good for showing photos or sharing them although it would be helpful for the aim to have some others because other websites such as Twitter, is good for making new contacts and to develop new business relationships. To have a blog would be good too as Robotica Educativa would be able to provide the content and also it is very easy to control it. YouTube is probably the most different one of all as it provides visual information through videos, it would be great to see videos of everything involve in the project.

When we started working on crowdfunding and crowdsourcing we knew that they were possible solutions for the end of the project. They work by the collaboration of many people together to get things done. Crowdsourcing is great to diverse ideas in different ways and to get critical thinking about your work as you are getting all this new ideas from knowledge of many different people. Crowdfunding is when a large number of people gives (usually) small amounts of money to fund a project.

This week we learned that groups and networking are clearly ways that Robotica Educativa could use to get closer to more people and show the world what they are trying to do. Both crowdfunding and crowdsourcing together with networks would work fantastic to increase the number of people who knows about Robotica Educativa, the social networks would do the job of getting closer to people, and once people know about what they want to do is more than likely that a large number of people would be interesting in helping them anyhow they can.

Networks and Communities!

As time passes our group is becoming more familiar with the project and our NGO. For the first week we had spent a time in confusion, however, now after having our two first meetings with the NGO everything is becoming clearer and clearer. As we understood this week, our NGO has no experience on crowdfunding and they are curious to get new ideas from us.

This week was about engaging the communities and joining networks. We, our group members, tried to have a better communication with each other and tried to be more in touch. For example we all joined a new platform called Basecamp, which provides an online community to collaborate and share files. Regarding the networks, we (group members) are not out spoken people and don’t really reveal our identities easily. Online communication and interacting with people online was hard for us; this is due to our understanding of online communication, that’s because we believe that a person is not as he/she seems online. However, for the project community we are facing this issue which we are actually supposed to interact with other people around the globe and join online and offline communities and in this case, solve their problems. This, of course, was and will be one of our biggest challenges during this module and coming weeks.

community

Moreover, as a whole group, we came up with various ideas in order to find the solution for our NGO. What we found the most challenging to do was to actually offer our NGO to design AND make a product for them.

Lastly, we are going to meet with our NGO next coming week where we can gather much more information from them and therefore offer them with ideas of crowdfunding.

Goodluck to all of us!
